The artist was born in Ottawa, Kansas in 1958. A musician, poet, and storyteller as well as an artist, Ward Smith received a Master's degree in art from Northern Illinois University in 1985 and works with people who have mental and physical disabilities. He has participated in numerous art exhibitions in the midwest, and also performs music and multi-media presentations in connection with his art.
"Inherent in the artist's profession is the conveyance to his/her public the vicissitudes of human perception, always pointing to possibility as the mysterious driving force behind the artist's creative process where infinite possiblities arise."
