Paintings by Philton Latortue

Philton Latortue was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in 1944. Helped by his brother Franklin, also a painter, Philton began to paint in 1962. In 1980 he won first prize in an international exhibition in Hamburg, Germany. Since then, his works have been shown throughout Europe, the U.S., and Mexico.

Latortue is famous for painting animals, giving them human characteristics in fairy tale settings. This particular series of paintings depicts the lion's life from his wedding through the first years of his marriage.
