Paintings by Raymond Desire

Desire is one of the great second-generation Haitian primitive artists, who began painting in the 1950's and 1060's. Desire's paintings, shown and collected world-wide, feature tilted perspectives and frontal directness which turn commonplace scenes into great works of art. This particular "Marriage" painting, finished in 1973, is the frontispiece of Selden Rodman's great book "The Miracle of Haitian Art," published in 1974.
