Paintings by Jose Antonio da Silva
Jose Antonia da Silva, born in Sales de Oliveira in 1909, is considered by many to be Brazil's greatest primitivist genius, and one of the greatest in the world. The range of da Silva's painting is vast, and his productivity is immense and tempestuous. A whole world vibrates and pullulates in his pictures. Jose Antonio has participated for many years in the Biennale of Sao Paulo, the II Biennale Hispano-Americana of Havana, the XXVII Biennale of Venice, and the Triennale of Bratislava. He is the subject of a book by Theon Spanudis.
