'Abstract Realism' - Urban Landscapes and Country Roads

The brilliant artist Charles Joffe is impossible to categorize; his versatility renders it impossible to describe his work in a single short statement. The subject matter of his large canvases ranges from still lives to landscapes, from surreal settings to commonplace items painted in incredible detail. He is also a sculptor, and creates intricately crafted, whimsical machines in gilded and polychromed wood. These "divertissements" have adorned the windows of Tiffany & Co. in New York, side-by-side with the most famous jewelry in the world. Select his painting at the left to go to his art.

Also a water colorist, Karen Stinnett can hardly remember a time when she was not painting.  She has won numerous awards, including first prizes in the American National Miniature Show, "Watercolor: Southeast," Westmoreland Nationals, and the Savoir Faire Juried National Exhibition.  She and her art were the subject of a feature article in Watercolor (1995).  Select the right image above to go directly to her paintings.

New York artist Howard Skrill works mainly in acrylics. His powerful landscapes invariably address the scene as altered or impacted by the hand of man. Continually fascinated by the geometries emerging from the juncture of the man-made and natural worlds, he captures these on canvas in a unique way. Our newest artist in this wing, Peter Scott, is a native New Yorker. Without formal training, his landscapes are realistic and intricate in their brushwork. He has a photographic eye and a wealth of natural ability. In the relatively few years Scott has been painting, he has shown in more than thirty juried group exhibitions and has had a dozen one man shows in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, New York, and Ohio. These include a show at the National Geographic in New York. Select the image above right to go to his work.

This wing consists of six rooms of Stinnett's new selections, three rooms of her "urban" and six rooms of her "suburban" and "rural" images.  You can take a walking tour through this wing by clicking on the images above, or you can take a shortcut to go directly to any of the artists in the gallery.  These paintings are available for purchase from The Electric Gallery. We'd also appreciate your giving us your comments on our presentation.
